Teaching Opportunities in Penn's Critical Writing Program

All Penn undergraduates, without exception, must fulfill the University's writing requirement. Most students do so by completing a Critical Writing seminar. See the Description and Goal Statement for more information.

For more information about the Critical Writing Program, Critical Writing Seminars, and Writing-Intensive Courses, visit our home page: www.writing.upenn.edu/critical

Critical Writing faculty include Penn professors and administrators from across the disciplines; Penn Post-Doctoral Writing Fellows, recruited nationally, who teach full-time in the Critical Writing Program as well as participate in instructor training and program development; Penn doctoral candidates, largely the recipients of Penn's distinguished Critical Writing Fellowships (formerly called "Chimicles Fellows"); lecturers; and visiting writers. Doctoral candidates, including the Critical Writing Fellows, teach one seminar per term typically on the same topic. Lecturers and visiting writers teach one or two seminars per academic year.

Proposals for seminars are accepted throughout the year and reviewed on or about:
  • January 1 for the following academic year

  • September 1 for spring openings

  • October 1 for the summer term
