Senior Tutors


Senior Tutors provide writing advice and assistance to Penn undergraduate and graduate students. Senior Tutors are typically enrolled in Penn graduate or professional programs, and are hired on a semester-by-semester basis. Senior Tutors typically work part-time, either by appointment in the Writing Center, 3808 Walnut Street or online. Daytime and evening hours are available.

Duties
  • Provide writing assistance and training as designated to appointees
  • Attend training sessions and other staff meetings as required
  • Keep up to date and accurate records of tutoring sessions
  • Follow the philosophy and practices of Writing Center as set forth in training sessions

    Qualifications
    Applicants must have a Master's Degree, Ph.D. preferred, and excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills. Prior experience as a tutor or in a writing program is preferred. Willingness to work with various kinds of writing and a broad range of students is a must, as are maturity, responsibility, and punctuality.

    Training
    Senior Tutors attend a series of training sessions, along with periodic staff meetings and other forms of professional development.

    Compensation
    Senior tutors are paid $20/hour.
