Fulfilling the Writing Requirement with Transfer Credit
The University of Pennsylvania has a unique, discipline-based writing curriculum that emphasizes
the writing process and teaches students collaborative peer review and workshop techniques. The
goal of our seminars is to prepare students to write successfully at Penn and beyond. Since our
program's approach and goals are specific to Penn, we seldom grant credit for the University
Writing Requirement to transfer students who have taken writing or composition courses elsewhere.
Students seeking credit for writing courses completed at their previous institution should review the policies below. Students must apply within their first academic year at Penn, must demonstrate competence as a writer, and must have received a final grade of "B" or better for their coursework.
