Penn Writing Fellows: Full-Time Lectureships

We invite applications for full-time lecturers to teach small, discipline-based writing seminars to Penn freshmen. Qualified PhDs with a strong interest in writing, whatever their academic discipline or specialty, are welcome. Applicants from the natural and social sciences are particularly encouraged to apply. We also seek applications from practicing writers with a substantial record of publishing. Because participation in a two-week intensive training program is a requirement for all new faculty, prior experience with the teaching of college writing is desirable, but not necessary. Full-time lecturers teach four to five courses per year, depending upon rank, with a starting salary ranging from $38,000 and 49,000 plus benefits. Appointments are for one academic year with a possible renewal of up to three years.

Applicants should submit the following:

  1. A letter of interest broadly outlining your qualifications and interest.
  2. Your current CV.
  3. A sample/proposed syllabus for a discipline-based seminar in the Critical Writing Program.
  4. Three letters of reference
  5. Evidence of your accomplishments as a teacher (e.g., teaching evaluations, awards).
  6. Evidence of your accomplishments as a writer or scholar (writing sample).
