Penn standing faculty, particularly junior faculty, are encouraged to teach a freshman writing seminar. Faculty
teaching the seminars meet to discuss current research on teaching and assessing writing, as well as to exchange ideas
and approaches with other faculty across the disciplines.
Drawing students from all four undergraduate schools, these small, intensive. discipline-based writing seminars are in
high demand. They introduce freshmen to college-level writing at Penn and often inspire students to further explore
your discipline.
Faculty teaching the seminar in-load are provided with a $4,000 stipend. For more information, contact Valerie Ross,
Director of the Critical Writing Program, email
