CURATOR STATEMENT

Enthalpy and Entropy : Biomorphological Transformations presents the dialectic of bio-processes attempting to traverse four dimensional space : process materializes a physicality regulated temporally. Khaischoice of the human figure and the decision to emphasize the presence of the hand constitute a deliberate mediation on several levels : projecting an anthropomorphic android or humanoid on paper rather than on canvas invokes the draughtsmans design, a conceptual re-engineering of the enthalpic- entropic processes. Rejecting a schematic approach that would be more typical of a modernist formalist or a postmodernist conceptualist, Khaiscreation is rendered in the fluid strokes of gestural abstraction within the form of a figurative framework. In most of these works, this figurative framework delimits yet expressively reveals the internal bio-processes of the new human being, in a sense in utero in the mind of the engineer. And yet this constructs only one level. For as Khaisnew human being gestates in an undesignated womb (what will serve as the container in this undesignated future?), Khais links the depicted materiality with the conception of gender construction and gender manipulation, realizing them into a state of dynamism and flux that articulates a final form ultimately withheld.
