Daniel Aaron's chapter on Dos Passos, footnote 4

4. Cowley reported his experiences in five articles for *NR*, XCII (Aug. 25-Oct. 6 1937), pp. 62, 93, 152, 179, 233, and one for *NM*, XXIV (Aug. 10, 1937), p. 16. Other American delegates to the Writers' International Association for the Defense of Culture were Anna Louise Strong, Louis Fischer (already there), and Langston Hughes, who did not make it. The most painstaking summary of Stalinist repressions in Spain was Anita Brenner's in *MM*, X (Sept. 1937), pp. 4-27.
