Trudy Lewis, "Auntie Em"

(published in Fence, spring-summer 2002, pp. 138-140)

Here are the first two of the three sections of this poem. "Sentences [were] culled by a random numerical process from twenty years of journals," writes Lewis. Lewis is the author of a novel, Private Correspondences. She currently teaches creative writing and women's studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia. "Auntie Em," inspired, in part, by Lyn Hejinian's My Life, was written for a recent production by Anvil/Lyre Studio.
