Ben wrote this poem-story at the Writers House during a special class trip to visit with Penn poets, April 2000. The "assignment" was: write a poem about a plain object that is actually, to you, quite beautiful or interesting.
I had an alarm clock. One night the alarm clock never stoped going "cock-a-doodle-doo." My dad put the alarm clock into the freezer. But we could still hear it! Then he put the alarm clock in the freezer down in the basement. The next day we went down to the basement. We opened the frezer and we herd the alarm clock sayin rac-er-dooo....
(This was the notorious watch.)
