Morning Post

Filed under: — site admin @ 11:15 am

This morning an uncorrected proof copy of Kenneth Koch’s Collected Poems (almost 800 pages) reminded me of the pleasure finding his work gave me back in the early 1960s. I remember even using a line of his, and looking back from this distance I detect rhythms and points of view that went into my mulch.

Steve Emerson, one of my favourite prose-writers (check, if you can find copies, Neighbors and The Wife ) is toying with a website that’s to my taste: fast, elegant, simple, interesting and amusing.

I’ve added a link to Tony Trehy in the sidebar because I like him and think what he’s trying to do is worthwhile and interesting. Who else will bring Bob Grenier to England?

Flood Editions

Filed under: — site admin @ 8:50 am

I know Flood Editions is listed in the links, but a packet I just opened jogs me to make a more visible and personal recommendation.

flood

Flood has only been publishing for four years and has a list of perhaps twenty books. Like those in this morning’s packet some are new (Merrill Gilfillan’s Undanceable ), some welcome republications (Ronald Johnson’s Radi os ); but all are well-designed and produced with an attention to detail rare these days.

Please look / and buy a book.

On Sunday 25th September 2005 from 7pm, the Royal Albert Hall will host a special anniversary incarnation of the Poetry Olympics. In Summer 1965, the Hall was filled to overflowing for the historic gathering of world voices (filmed as Wholly Communion) which celebrated the renaissance of performance poetry and international times.

JOY LAURENCE

Joy Laurence died, peacefully, at 4.50 this afternoon in hospital in London. Fast-acting cancer. She leaves three daughters and many friends. I’d like to remember her here at a happier time…. just twelve months ago.
