Howard Marks' new book forthcoming

Howard Marks (W'67), founder and Chairman of Oaktree Capital Management, LLC, has a new book forthcoming from Waterstones Press (Columbia Business School Publishing). Entitled The Most Important Thing: Uncommon Sense for the Thoughtful Investor, the book is a blend of memoir, analysis, and guide to intelligent investment.

Mr. Marks is known in financial circles not only for his market wisdom but also for his ability to communicate it in his eagerly awaited memos, highly regarded for their prescience, charm, and crisp clarity. As the Wall Street Journal's Peter Lattman wrote, "Everyone knows about the anticipation leading up to Warren Buffett's annual shareholder letters. But for a certain Wall Street set, there are equally high expectations for the writings of Howard Marks."

Mr. Marks chaired the University of Pennsylvania's Trustees' Investment Board from 2000-2010 and has been a longtime member of the Southern California Regional Advisory Board. In 1992, he established the Howard S. Marks Term Scholarship for students across the four undergraduate schools. In 2009, he generously endowed the Marks Family Writing Center so that Penn students could be assured the sort of individual attention and feedback that he credits with advancing his own writing skills.
