Scholarship awards announced

March 27, 2008

I am pleased to announce that Rebecca "Rivka" Fogel has been awarded the Behrman Scholarship and that Kristen Martin has been awarded the Caterfino Scholarship. Each will hold this distinction until graduation.

The Behrman Family Scholarship Fund for a Young Writer is made possible through the generosity of Grant Behrman (WG'77) on behalf of his family. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial support to an undergraduate student who is a member of the Kelly Writers House community and/or involved in Writers House projects and programs.

The Douglas W. Caterfino Endowed Scholarship Fund for a Young Writer provides financial support to an undergraduate student who is involved in Creative Writing workshops and seminars and is a member of Penn's extended writing community. The fund was created by Elissa Shaw Caterfino (College '83) in loving memory of Douglas W. Caterfino (Wharton '83).

In just her second semester at Penn, Rivka Fogel (C'11) has already become a significant member of the Writers House community and has taken poetry and fiction writing workshops. She was recruited to Penn primarily because of the fine poetry she had written as a high-school student.

Kristen Martin, also a first-year student, is a general assignments writer and copy assistant at The Daily Pennsylvanian, and has contributed to Penn Appetit, Penn's food magazine. Through the Critical Writing Program she is training to become a Peer Tutor in the Penn Writing Center next year, and intends to major in Creative Writing.

We congratulate Kristen and Rivka and we send our sincerest thanks to Grant and Elissa.
